“How much do dental implants cost?”

This a question we get asked all the time at Benchmark Dental in both of our offices and I wish there was a simple answer. Tooth replacement with dental implants is a very person-specific procedure, it is difficult to quote a price without examining you and determining your specific needs. Many conditions can impact the total cost of a successful implant procedure.

Conditions that impact the cost of dental implants:

  • Does the existing tooth (or teeth) need to be extracted or is it already out? Extraction can vary in cost depending on the location of the tooth, its condition, and the methods required to remove it.
  • Is there a need for bone grafting procedures? Grafting is often a necessary prerequisite to implants, and can range in price from $350 to $2000 depending on the site, techniques requierd, and the amount of bone graft material needed.
  • Is there a need for cosmetic parts for the implant placement or restoration if in a cosmetic zone?
  • Is there a need for a temporary tooth or teeth during healing time?
  • Does the area require removal of old bridges or modification of dentures or partial dentures?
  • Will a new denture or partial denture need to be made?
  • Will a new bite guard, retainers, or other appliance need to be fabricated?

Are dental implants covered by insurance?

The surgical placement of the implant is only one factor to be considered in the cost of placing and restoring an implant, and is frequently covered under dental insurance benefits. Currently about 75% of plans nationwide cover the cost of dental implants to some degree. Pricing may be dependent upon your plan’s benefits and our network status with that insurance carrier. We are in-plan for most major dental insurance carriers. This is something that we must verify on an individual basis with the insurance carrier because one insurance plan with a particular carrier may cover implants, whereas another plan with that same carrier may not. This is dependent upon your employer or benefits provider and the selections they have made.

Restoring the implant with a new tooth is a separate part of the procedure, and we always strive to complete this part in the best fashion, both economically and functionally. Due to our use of Cerec technology, we are usually able to complete the restoration of your implant faster and at less expense than most people think. This part of the procedure is frequently covered by insurance, but again, must be verified on an individual basis. We can do a pre-determination with your dental insurance provider once we have examined you and determined your exact needs!

The need for a CAT Scan for dental implants

In order to ensure the best service and outcomes for our patients, we perform a 3D CT scan (CAT Scan) of the jaw for all patients. This allows us to see a three-dimensional view of the vital structures of the jaws such as nerves, other teeth, sinuses, etc. This is a critical part of the process to ensure that you have a successful outcome! There is an additional fee for this scan.

What about the advertisements for low-cost dental implants?

All you have to do is Google “Dental Implants” and you will find advertisements for dental implants as low as $599, $1995, etc.

Beware of anyone who offers to place an implant for an unbelievably low price. This is bait-and-switch advertising and we don’t do that!

Get a consultation prior to committing to surgery with that doctor in order to find out what additional procedures may be necessary, what type of implant will be placed, what type of tooth will be placed on that implant. Be certain to educate yourself fully on dental implants prior to any procedure. Remember that you don’t know what you don’t know.

The Bottom Line on the Cost of Dental Implants

If a patient requires no additional grafting, surgery, other services, additional temporaries, etc., an implant may be placed and restored for as little as $2,900.00. This is less than a bridge, and less than some offices charge for just the placement of the dental implant without a tooth on it. If you have been told you need a dental implant, or if you think it might be a good option for you, please call 970.460.4871 today for a consultation!

One more thing…

Remember that most of this discussion has been regarding a single tooth replacement with a single implant. There are multiple uses for dental implants, including full mouth or full arch treatment, as well as denture stabilization. These all require separate considerations, and as we stated above, are very person-specific, so please give us a call for a no-obligation consultation! We look forward to meeting you in person!
